Everyone has their own standards of sexy.
The idea of sexy has many different meanings to individual people. 
As society has changed, the boundaries have been pushed, tested, stretched and shattered where the concept of sexy is concerned. 
Sex, for most of the twentieth century, was considered to be a not to be discussed in polite company topic. 
Once movies became a big part of everyone's life, the idea of liking large women was less and less likely to be entertained by many males.  Hollywood stars were usually skinnier than most women for their time. The reason was simple; cameras add pounds to anyone's form, so stars tended to be thinner than average in real life to appear normal on the screen.  Gradually, the the sexy standard gradually started to shift from voluptuous to thin.

There is now a trend in place that is moving the sexy ideal to larger sizes.
With plastic surgery, big boobs are more in vogue, even on skinny women.
Push up bras  with even triple padding are hot selling items among the slim set, but when their male companions see them without clothes on, the jig (jug?) is up.  Men are disappointed with push-up-bra types.  So, many men are now look at women with naturally large busts, so voluptuous is back in vogue.   And on that note, who is more curvy than a BBW?

When you look back through the larger part of history, curvy women were the most desirable. Larger women were seen as fruitful, and offspring were a benefit in hunter-gatherer and rural based societies.  Even in cave man days, small figurines often idealized their goddesses as curvy women and in most cases these figurines were more fat than voluptuous.

The lyrics in "Fiddler On The Roof" (If I Was a Rich Man) a story about Russian peasant society in the early 1900's talks about a rich man's wife as having a proper double chin. In other words, for much of the past, being portly was a status symbol, because it proved you had plenty to eat, and therefore must be rich.

Towards the end of the twentieth century, there has been a new incoming citizens from many various societies into north America. With these societies of people have come the more traditional preference for larger families and women who will bear larger families.  The curvy lady is back in fashion.

Who knows, maybe in a few more years, Hollywood starlets will be big beautiful women.  Mae West was certainly not in any way skinny, but in the early 20's and 30's she was most men's ideal of a sexy lady.
